How to use Grok Bot for SEO

A step-by-step setup that turns a Grok Bot into a working SEO assistant: install, connect real data, run a first audit, then put it on a schedule.

The short answer

Add the SEOAgent Grok Bot template to your account. Give the Bot your domain and email. It installs the SEO tools and logs itself in. Then connect Google Search Console and give the Bot a weekday routine.

Before you start

  • A Grok Bot. At launch, xAI offered Grok Bot on SuperGrok and on paid Cursor plans, on desktop and iOS.
  • Access to where your site is built. A Git repository the Bot can push to, or the admin API of your CMS (WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Ghost and others).
  • Google Search Console for your domain, or the access to verify it.
  • About ten minutes.

Setup, step by step

1. Open Grok Bot and pick a Bot for SEO

Use one Bot for SEO only. Its routines and notes then stay about SEO, and its summaries stay short. One thing to know: xAI assigns the computer to your account, not to one Bot. All your Bots share the same files and sign-ins.

2. Add the SEOAgent Grok Bot template

Open the template page and click Add to Grok Bot. Per xAI’s docs, this copies the Bot’s identity, description, skills and routines to your account. It does not copy the creator’s computer, logins or chat history.

3. Give the Bot your domain and email

The Bot asks two questions. Then it opens SEOAgent in its own browser, gets a one-time setup code and runs two commands:

What the Bot runs (you do not need to type this)
npm install -g @seoagent-official/seoagent
seoagent init --code <your-one-time-code>

It is done when the output says Logged in as. If your email is new to SEOAgent, the code also creates your account, and you get an email with a link to claim your dashboard.

Already have a Grok Bot you want to keep?

Skip the template. Get a setup code, copy the setup block, and paste it into your Bot. Paste it into the Bot, not into Grok chat.

4. Give the Bot access to your site

The Bot can only fix what it can reach. Pick the case that matches your site:

  • Your site is built from a repository (Next.js, Astro, Hugo, Lovable exports and so on). Connect the repository, for example through a GitHub connector, and tell the Bot its name. The Bot changes files and opens pull requests.
  • Your site is on a hosted platform (WordPress.com, Shopify, Webflow, Wix, Ghost, Blogger). The Bot publishes through the platform’s API. You create the API key or application password and hand it over.

Never paste a password into chat

xAI’s docs say not to send passwords or one-time codes in ordinary chat. Use Grok Bot’s secure handoff, where you take control for that step, or its masked input.

5. Connect Google Search Console

Open the SEOAgent dashboard from the claim email and connect Search Console. This gives the Bot real clicks, impressions and positions per page and per query. Without this step, every “this page is losing traffic” statement is a guess.

6. Run a first audit without changes

Start read-only. You see what the Bot sees before it touches anything:

Say this to your Bot
Run a full SEO audit of my site with SEOAgent. Show me the five fixes that will matter most, with the reason for each. Do not change anything yet.

7. Set your approval rules

There are two layers of approval:

  • Grok Bot’s own rules. Publishing, sending messages, deleting data and production changes ask for approval. Shell commands and file edits follow your Auto Review rules.
  • SEOAgent’s queue. Changes can be staged automatically, or wait for you to review each one. To review each one first, the Bot runs seoagent autopilot auto-approve off.

A good start: let the Bot open pull requests freely, and approve each merge or publish yourself for two weeks.

8. Schedule a routine

Routines are created in conversation. This one is a good default:

Say this to your Bot
Every weekday at 8:00 AM, run seoagent sync, work through the SEO inbox in priority order, open one pull request with the changes, and send me a three-line summary of what you did and what needs my approval.

More schedules, with the exact text: Grok Bot SEO routines.

Troubleshooting

ProblemFix
I pasted the setup block and nothing happened. You probably pasted it into Grok chat. It cannot run commands. Paste it into a Grok Bot.
The setup code does not work.Codes work once and expire after 24 hours. Get a new one. A new code for the same site replaces the old one.
My email already has an SEOAgent account.Sign in at seoagent.com first, then get the code while signed in.
My site has no repository. That is normal for hosted platforms. The Bot uses the platform’s API, or gives you the finished page to paste in.
The routine did not run.Ask the Bot to list its routines. Then check if a step waits for your approval.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Grok Bot SEO setup take?

The template part usually takes under a minute. Plan about ten minutes in total, most of it for connecting your repository and Google Search Console.

Can I use a Grok Bot I already have?

Yes. Get a setup code on seoagent.com/for/grok-bots and paste the setup block into your existing Bot. Do not paste it into Grok chat, which cannot run commands.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. The Bot runs the commands. You need to be able to connect your repository or CMS and approve changes. If your site is built from code, a developer may want to review the first pull requests.

What happens to my data if I remove the Bot?

Your SEOAgent account and its data stay in SEOAgent until you delete them. Files on the Grok Bot computer are part of your xAI account, so manage them there.
